The Lord has really been showing me some stuff today. On the soul front, He has been showing me that the soul is comprised of the spiritual mind and the natural mind by default, because the natural mind not only lets things in as the heart, but the spiritual mind expresses what it becomes through the spiritual mind. So, giving God your whole soul means giving God my natural mind, so that I can give Him my spiritual mind. The things Jesus said begin to make more sense:

Matthew 22:34-40
34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. 35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
In this case the heart is the natural mind which must hear Hear God to be born again, the soul is both the heart and the mind (spiritual mind), and the mind representing the spiritual mind. That's the clearest I've ever seen this, so its a step in a good direction for me. Then the Lord reminded me of the tabernacle. In it there was the outer court, inner court and holiest of holies. Again this got even clearer, the inner court housed both the inner court and the holiest of holies. You already see where I'm going probably. Now this verse makes more sense:

Ephesians 3:14-21
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
The inner man is the part that houses the natural mind and the spiritual mind! The inner man can be called the soul of man, separate from the outer man all together. Then Paul talks about the breadth, length and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ. He just described the tabernacle that houses the outer and inner courts. The linen curtains which made up the outer walls of the tabernacle where a certain height, the grounds of the tabernacle where of certain breadth, it was a certain length, and the pins that staked the curtains into the ground were only driven a certain depth, why?, because the represented the fact that Christ would be buried and then be resurrected! That Christ may dwell in your hearts (the inner man of the soul (natural mind, spiritual mind), by faith (knowledge of what God has done and explained in the tabernacle). Rooted and grounded in love (an understanding of the righteousness of God expressed in Jesus Christ).

The passage in Matthew omits the Luke version which say and with all strength. That is just like Ephesians which says that we be strengthened with might in our inner man. The only strength we have is to be secure in the knowledge of all Christ has done as expressed in the tabernacle and temple. To know that my natural mind and spiritual mind has been secured, rooted, and grounded in the knowledge/faith of Christ. I can renew my mind and righteousness has made my spirit free and its teaching the natural mind to be rooted in the change that's taken place in my spiritual mind till the whole body is one, glory!
